The "New Labour" Government issued yet another Stealth Tax after the Budget of 1999 in a press release known as IR35. The target being the ever increasing number of IT and Engineering Professionals providing their skills, experience and knowledge to larger enterprises through "Personal Service Companies". These professionals, known  as contractors or subbies in the UK and shoppers or jobshoppers in the US, have stepped out of the relative protection and security of employment to the insecurity of being their own boss.

A concerned contractor, Andy White, with access to the www through his website (see the IR35 links page) asked a simple question wondering if anyone else had realised the implications of IR35. He soon realised he was not alone. The PCG he founded has grown from that question on a website back in March 1999 to an organisation with 11,000 members.

The primary role of the PCG is to provide a professional lobby group for the contracting sector of industry with clear access to the corridors of power in Westminster. The organisation provides access to legal, accounting and insurance professionals for advise and provides an information library and discussion fora for the membership. The organisation is young and still evolving and yet has gained high respect from all quarters. We are proud to be members of Professional Contractors Group.
